Paralympian Makes His Mark on World Stage
article excerpt from the Miami Herald
by Amanda Marquez
Scott Danberg, a fitness coach at Pritikin Longevity Center and Spa in Aventura, won his first international medal when he took second place in javelin at the 1988 Paralympic Games in Seoul, South Korea. He went on to compete in the 1992 Paralympic Games in Barcelona, the 2004 Games in Athens and the 2008 Games in Beijing.
"The chance to represent my country in these competitions has been so rewarding," said Danberg, 47. "Walking out of the tunnel at the opening ceremonies, a sold-out stadium of 100,000 fans cheering for you, there is nothing like that experience."
Danberg, who had the opportunity to throw out the first pitch at the Marlins game Wednesday, is hoping to add to his athletic résumé this weekend.
More than 150 athletes, who will be competing in different classifications based on their types of disabilities, will participate in hopes of qualifying for the International Paralympic Committee Athletics World Championships in January 2011 in Christchurch, New Zealand.
